One day, in a village high in the mountains of China’s Yunnan province, a farmers daughter fell ill. It was during wintertime so there was no access to their village, and no way to get to a doctor. However there was a shaman near the top of the mountain. The farmer and his wife decided to take their daughter up the mountain to see the shaman. The journey took a week to reach the summit and unfortunately the daughter died along the way. The farmer decided to talk to the shaman anyway, to see if anything could be done.

In late October I decided that I was going to return to the Far East. I used to live in the heart of Yunnan province, China. I had spent three years there trying to build a business and failing at it. I had no idea what I was doing and half assed everything I tried. That left me with nothing to show but embarrassment and feeling like a failure. This was also the time when I was at my heaviest. This sent me into a crushing depression that I did not handle well. I’m off to China! I will be spending 6 weeks in China visiting friends, trying new teas and exotic foods.
For the first time ever I used a hotel exercise room. This gym had two treadmills, and some other equipment that I didn’t bother with. I chose to repeat the last run I did but it felt good anyway.

So, the Holiday season is almost over. You’re feeling a little sluggish and are still full from the family dinner a few days ago. You decide that it’s time to make a change, but, where to begin? You don’t want to walk into a gym that’s as busy as a zoo — especially around January — when the only time it’s quiet to use the machines is at 3:30 in the morning.
