Recently I had a reality check about the limited time we have on Earth. If we don’t make healthy choices and make the most of our lives it can cost us everything. I believe that our health is the single most important thing in our lives. Without it, we cannot enjoy our life as fully as possible.
I’m not saying we shouldn’t have our vices but that we should use moderation when we do get off track. There is a reason “everything in moderation” is conventional wisdom. It’s because it keeps from repeatedly making the same bad choices. Choices that more often than not we’d like to admit have dire consequences.
It was the first loss of a personal friend that I have ever experience so I am still not 100% sure how to deal with it. But my friends and family are saying I am handling it very maturely. I think it’s equally important to take time to reflect as it is to distract yourself from your loss. You don’t want to dwell on it but you also don’t want to deny yourself time to grieve. You have to look after yourself.
For me that means talking with my friends, getting out and exercising and doing a bit of gaming to take my mind off of things. I also decided to start educating myself about things my friend cared about. Causes concerning social and political problems. That’s how I plan to deal with this. For you that could mean something else.
I won’t get into the details of what happened but I just want to say that my friend Da Wei was a good guy whose life was cut short. He’ll be missed.
