Thoughts on Meditation from a Beginner

I’m a very scientific minded person so I was very interested in seeing the benefits and effects of meditation. I started with 5 minutes a day and after a few days I decided to push myself and go for 30+ minute sessions. I also tried different sitting positions.

I first got interested in meditation because my therapist uses an EEG machine assisted hypnosis meditation techniques during our work together. A week and half ago I decided to go online and see if there was a consumer level EEG machine I could buy. I found one on Amazon and I have to say I love using it.

I followed the instructions and started with a five minute session. As I suspected I was much more calm after the session than I was 5 minutes prior. The next day I did another five minute session and the effects were noticeably more positive than my first session.

On my sixth session I decided to kick it up a notch and do a 30 minute session. I was not only very calm during the session but something unexpected happened. I had what is called a hypnagogic hallucinations, one of which was a falling container. It was so realistic it caused me to reflexively try and catch it!

I knew meditation would help me with my anxiety but I did not expect to have hallucinations and I certainly did not expect to feel so calm and free. I can honestly say that I feel like I’m becoming a new person.
