Setting your priorities is one of the most important skills you can learn. Without it, you run a huge risk of wasting your most important resources(time and effort). No matter what it is you want to accomplish, your efforts will be better served by managing your priorities better. If you want to move forward in life and achieve your goals you need to set your priorities straight.One of the first things I learned about managing my time was to ask myself one question. I ask myself “Is this going to get me to where I want to go?” As soon as I started asking myself that I started becoming the guy I want to be. Once you start asking this question you start, you start seeing all these unhealthy habits and actions that you can now cut down or out.
All of my unhealthy habits that I developed as a young adult did was make me unhealthy. I thought I could go out every weekend and keep my six pack. I wanted to be a champion in martial arts and thought I could party and have fun all the time. Even as late as 33 I thought that I could drink one night and run 5 km the next morning. Well it doesn’t work that way. It’s not sustainable.
I’m not saying never socialize, or spend time out on the town, just that you think about if this is something that helps you achieve your goals or not. Whether it’s going to a party with friends or binge watching Netflix, make sure it’s only part of a lifestyle you want to live and not the lifestyle you live. No matter what it is you want to achieve in life asking this one question about anything you do can have as big an impact as it has on mine. So ask yourself
“Is this going to get me to where I want to go?”
